Become an AYSO Referee
The referee’s job is to be the official in charge of the game. A referee’s authority extends to everyone at the field, including players, substitutes, team officials, spectators, and even assistant referees. AYSO Referees keep the game safe, fair and fun for everyone: the players, the coaches, the spectators, and themselves!
Our region has a proud history of training quality referees. Please join and help provide our youths with a safe and fun environment to play soccer. Contact the Regional Referee Administrator for additional information.
Each season we need as many referees as coaches if not more; refereeing is easier and less of a time commitment. AYSO is about playing Fun, Fair and Safe. Our referee training is what makes it possible. If there is no official to referee a game the kids don't get to play.
Referees are Needed
Every weekend Region 116 hosts 21 games. Every game has 3 referee positions that need to be filled. That's 63 opportunities to referee.
Refereeing is Fun
We want our referees to enjoy volunteer work. We provide training, uniforms, equipment, continued training, and comradery. Often with pizza and donuts!
Refereeing is Flexible
Refereeing is the most flexible way to volunteer. Each week you get to pick the games you are interested in.
Refereeing is Important
We work together with coaches from each team as stewards to focus on player safety including pre-game player equipment checks, field inspections, review of concussion protocols as well as checking in with each other at game stoppages.
